Ignite Greensboro

Ignite Greensboro (a student-led project to engage students in the Greensboro area in the community through ongoing social action and comprehensive programs) led a march that began at NC A&T University and ended in downtown Greensboro, in front of the Melvin Municipal Building.

The people that were marching are opposed to the opening of a landfill on White Street, which would be in close proximity to a residential area. The Greensboro City Council was scheduled to meet today a 5:30 to vote on awarding a contract to a business to start building the landfill. Gate City Waste Services was the front runner to receive the bid, but as of today, they have withdrawn their proposal. The power of many voices banding together as one in order to save their community proved to be a worthy fight.
