POD: Day 249 | 4.20.12

What a great day for community journalism! It began with Realtor Care Day, a volunteer initiative by local realtors to make improvements for struggling homeowners including veterans, the elderly, and the disabled in Mecklenburg and Iredell counties. In total, realtors made repairs on 23 homes in the area. 

   

The day ended with a hero's welcome for Cpl. Garrett Carnes. Cpl. Carnes lost parts of his legs in an explosion during a military operation in Afghanistan in February. He was escorted from Virginia by hundreds of Patriot Guard motorcyclists to the Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville where he was greeted by hundreds of people and presented with a key to the city of Mooresville.
