I had an impromptu opportunity to photograph a girls high school soccer game (Myers Park vs Ardrey Kell) with photographer Jeff Siner near the end of my shift on Friday. I jumped at the chance because I have never photographed soccer and thought it would be a good learning experience.
We made it through the first half (score 0-0) before rain started falling. By the time we got into the press box to get the opposing team's roster, lighting struck and they delayed the game for 20 minutes. Lightning struck again within a few minutes and they called everyone off the field. Next thing I know, we are in the confined space of the press box with the entire Myers Park girls soccer team. I learned that soccer is tough because it can take place almost entirely on one end of the field and goals are few and far between. I also learned that quite a few people can fit into a press box and--despite falling rain--if you run fast enough to the car, your equipment doesn't get too wet ;-)
