The evening started out nicely with a small dinner gathering with friends. It was a veggie-filled/mostly gluten-free feast with goat cheese and red onion marmalade, roasted sweet potatoes and fennel, butternut squash soup, roasted mushrooms, roasted brussels sprouts and shallots in fig balsamic vinegar and more.
For dessert, all the way from Monica's Pies in Naples, NY, via Sara Zona's suitcase: GRAPE PIE! Delicious (with a capital D)!!
When we got home we discovered that the dogs had gotten into a bag of dark chocolate. Since we had no way of knowing which dog it was, and knowing that dark chocolate can be extremely toxic to canines (theobromine is the main toxin), we whisked Murray and Leo to the emergency vet at 11:30pm. After they induced vomiting (sorry, there isn't a better way to say that), they found that Murray was the culprit. Leo was released and he waited with us while Murray received liquid charcoal to soak up any residual chocolate in his system. We finally made it home around 3:30am with two shaky pups and over $350 spent on making sure our four-legged children lived to see another day. What a night.
